Bobbili
Fort |

Bobbili fort
is situated in this ancient town. It is associated
with the historic battle between the Raja of
Bobbili and the Zamindar of Vizianagaram, who was
aided by the French. The fierce war established
this as a land of herosim, bravery and courage.
The impresive Bobbili fort stands as a slient
testimony to this hard fought battle which saw the
Raja of Bobbili lay his life fighting rather than
surrendering. The Venugopala Swamy Temple here is
quite famous as also the oldest in the district.

Govindapuram
known as Muktidamam is a holy pilgrim center. The
magnificent temple here is renowned for its
sculptural beauty and is based on the essence of
Bhagawatgita. Gyna Ratham with Lord Krishna on the
Chariot is an impressive image which enthralls the
visitors.

Kumili |

Kumily is
famous on account of a huge complex of temples built by local
devotees over a period of 10 years. The temples are unique
with extremely attractive sculptures, paintings on the walls &
idols. The temples within the complex are dedicated to
Ganapati, Siva, Kalikadevi, Navagrahalu, Satyanarayana Swamy,
Subramanyaswara Swamy , Seetharam Swamy, Anjaneya Swamy &
Venugopala Swamy. Incidently, the village was the former seat
of the erstwhile Vizianagaram kingdom & ruins of a mud forts
still exist.

How to reach
: Located 4 kms from Srungavarapukota and 25 kms
from Vizianagaram . One of the Oldest Shiva Temple
is situated here. The sanctum has an underground
water source which ensures that the shivalinga is
perpetually bathed with water. In the nearby
Trimurthi cave, three lingas are installed over
which water constantly drips. Considered to be a
very holy spot, a large number of devotees flock
here during the Mahasivartri festival . Legend has
it that if one bathes in the waterfalls neary and
then has Dharshan of Lord Shiva, he attains
Mosksha.

On the
southern most hill stand the remains of Rama
temple, vestiges of Jainism and natural caves. The
northern hill known as Durgakonda is named after
goddess Durga whose statue is in a natural cave.
The central hill known as Gurubhaktakonda contains
a number of Buddhist structures. Excavations
conducted by A.Rea brought to light images of
Buddha, a Satavahana lead coin, clay seals, votive
stupas etc. One of the clay seals contained the
name of the local king Sri Siva (maka) Vijaya Raja
Selasaghasa who ruled the area from 1st & 2nd
AD. The Buddhist remains at Ramathirtham
consist of a maha stupa, five chaityagrihas, five viharas and
five votive stupas and remains of a monastery.

The imposing
fort formed the nucleus around which grew the town
of Vizianagaram. Depicitng the past glory of th
erulers, the quadrangular stone fort is evident of
the konwledge and skillfulness of the builders and
architects of those days. An ancient tiemple
of Pydithalli Annavari is situated in this town. Legend has it
that one of the daughters of the Pasupati royal family was the
reincarnation of the presiding deity, Pydithallamma. The
locals believe that with the blessings of the Goddess one can
lead a happy & prosperous life. The idol of the Goddess was
discovered on Vijayadashami day way back in the year 1752. To
mark the occasion, an annual Jatra is held on 21st & 22nd
October which attracts large crowds.
