Khammam Fort

Khammam, the ancient town was an important seat of administration in 13th century under the great Kakatiyas of Warangal. Khammam Fort was constructed by Velma Reddy and Laksham Reddy during Kakatiyan regime. The hill on which the fort situated is known as Stambhadri. The tall pillar like stones found on this hill were used as pillars to support the ceiling of the temples and mandapas here. Golconda Sultans took over the regime from Kakatiya Administration and strived hard for development of Khammam Fort and other parts of the region. Khammam Fort is the reciprocation both Hindu and Muslim culture

 

Kinnerasani Dam

The Scenery of Kinnerasani Dam is very beautiful with greenery and natural landscape. Glasses Rest House constructed by Singareni Collieries at Kinnerasani has given a boost to attract the tourists in this regard. The Kinnersani project is located at Yanambile among picturesque surroundings.
A Dam was constructed across the Kinnerasani River at Yanambile, which provides water to KTPS at Palvoncha for power generation. It also provides irrigation facilities to the nearby farmers through lift Irrigation.

 

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary  

This Wildlife Sanctuary lying on the Right Bank of the Godavari River forms a part of the Dandakaranya forests in Khammam district. It is situated 12-km from Paloncha, Khammam District. It extends over an area of 635.4-sq-kms It derives its name from the river Kinnerasani, which bisects the sanctuary and ultimately drains into the Godavari River.
The sanctuary represents dry deciduous mixed type forests with teak, bamboo and terminals. Other species found here are Maddi, Yepi, Yegissa, Sommi Thandra, Bandaru, Amla, Mango, Tendu. Main attractions of the sanctuary are the Deer Park, Kinnerasani Dam and Reservoir with Jaladrushyam Guest house. Many perennial springs known as "Togus" flow through this sanctuary along with Kinnerasani Rallavagu

 

Nelakondapalli
 

Nelakondapalli village is situated about 20 km from Khammam which is known for its historic glory. There are certain archaeological glimpses at the places known as Virataraju dibba and Keechaka Gundam claiming importance in the days of Mahabaratha. Virata Raju was the king of Virata Nagaram and it was under him that the Pandavas worked after their twelve years of exile in the forest. Keechaka, the brother-in-law of Virata who tried to misbehave with Draupadi, the wife of Pandavas, was killed by Bheemasena, working in disguise as a cook by name Valaludu. Some Buddhist Stupas and idols found in the excavations in 1977 had further supported the belief that this district had historical past. The excavations here have revealed foundations of brick built Viharas, wells, Cisterns, a Mahastupa, terracotta figurines, a bronze image of Buddha and nine stone Idols of Buddha, miniature stupa carved in lime stone and other early historic materials belonging to 3rd and 4th centuries AD.
Nelakondapalli is also famous being the Birth Place of celebrated devotee Kancharla Gopanna, popularly known as Bhakta Ramadas. There were some very ancient temples in the village. The old Residence of Bhakta Ramadas was named as Bhakta Ramadas Dhyana Mandir

 

Papi Kondalu

As the mighty Godavari river races past the hills taking the course that resembles a narrow gorge, it appears to be in hurry. The launch ride from Kunavaram to to Papi hills- the confluence point of Sabari river with Godavari where from the river turns brown and turbid- is a pleasant experience. As the launch gets closer to the jungles which cover the river route all along, it would be a visual delight and feast of colours for a naked eye. The jungles are inhabited by colourful tribal people. Papi Hills is believed to be a place where all the sins are cleansed.

 

Parnasala
 

It is the most attractive tourist spot backed by mythological heritage. It is also said the Lord Sri Rama spent his 14 years of exile at Parnasala village situated at 32 Kms away from Bhadrachalam. It is believed that Sita, the beloved consort of Lord Sri Rama took bath in the stream here and dried her clothes on Radhagutta. It is also said that Ravana, the unscrupulous demon King, before abducting Sita parked his Pushpaka on this hillock. An earthen ditch reportedly caused when Ravana removed earth to carry off Sita to Lanka can be seen here.The legendary story goes that this was the place where Rama killed Mareecha, who came in disguise of a golden deer to deceive Seetha

 

Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy Temple
 

Bhadrachalam, famous Hindu pilgrim centre set amidst thick forests on the banks of Godavari river gets the name from the hill called Bhadragiri is . Bhadrachalam known for the temple of Sri Seetaramchandra Swamy which is considered to be one of the greatest shrines in South India with historical background. It is considered a holy place since Lord Rama is supposed to have lived here for some time. This holy temple was constructed by his ardent devotee, Kancherla Gopanna, popularly called as Ramadas. He was an official in the Taluk Office during the reign of the last Qutub Shahi ruler Abul Hasan Tana Shah.
The Sree Seetharamachandra Swamy shrine at Bhadrachalam, the most famous temple in the country dedicated to Lord Rama, is situated on the left bank of the mighty river Godavari. Regarded as one of the most holy temples in South India, it has become a major pilgrimage center for Hindus from all over the country. The uniqueness of the temple is that the idol of Lord Rama has a bow in one hand along with Shanku and Chakra. Also, unlike in other temples Sita is seated on Rama's lap. Thousands of devotees visit the shrine every year on Sreeramanavami to witness the holy Kalyana Mahaotsava.
