Amaravati

Amaravati is located on the banks of river Krishna about 35 kms from Guntur. During the reign of the Satavahanas from 2nd century B.C. to 2nd century A.D., Buddhism flourished in Andhra Desa. Dharanikota or Dhanyakataka whose modern name is Amaravati was the capital of the Satavahanas.
The Amaralingeswara Swamy temple on the banks of river Krishna is a prominent pilgrim centre.

 

Amaravati Museum

The collection includes the antiquities from other Buddhist sites in Andhra Pradesh belonging to the 3rd Century BC to about the 12th Century AD, a gold necklace from Gummadidurru, relic-caskets with bone-relics and gold flowers.
The exhibits in the Museum are arranged in three different galleries.
Gallery I contents
This gallery displays some of the selected examples of the art-tradition of Amaravati, besides an inscribed relief of Buddha from Gummadidurru. Image of Buddha, Coins, Beads, Terracotta, Pottery, Drum slabs, Dome-slabs, Pillars & Rail fragments and Miscellaneous Sculptures.
Gallery II contents
The exhibits in the gallery comprise a few early relics of the 2nd Century BC, inscribed pillars, drum & dome slabs,Two Buddha images from Alluru and a stone-wheel from Lingarajapalli.
How to Reach
35 km Guntur and 70 km from Vijayawada. From Guntur, Amaravati is well connected by bus and there are frequent buses from Guntur. Private transport is also available.

 

Bapatla Beach(Suryalanka)  

Located at a distance of 7 Km from Bapatla is the beautiful sun-kissed beach of suryalanka stretches endlessly. Right spot for a holiday trip.

Bhavanarayanaswami Temple At Bapatla
 

Bapatla located 53 kms from Guntur got its name from the Bhavanarayan Swamy temple situated here. This temple is one of the ancient temples in Andhra Pradesh. It is also the oldest town with good educational institutions and a beach.

 

Chebrole

Chebrole is located 15 kms from Guntur. This is the site of one of India's rarest temple, Chaturmukha Brahma Lingeswaralayam. Other historical places of worship here are also worth a visit.

 

Chejerla
 

Chejerla situated 30 Kms from Narasaraopet is an ancient Saivite center dating back to the third century A.D. The temples known as Kapoteswara tempe built on apsidal plan. Many subsidary temples and historical sculptures at this temple complex are worth to see.

 

Ethipothala Water falls
 

Just abaut 11 kms fram the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam are the Ethipathala waterfalls an the Chandravanka river, a tributary of the river Krishna.
Amidst beautiful scenic surraundings yau can marvel at the shimmering water as it cascades dawn 70ft into. a lagoon. The picture pastcard beauty af the place with verdant valleys tagether with numerous cave temples and the hilly cauntryside have made this, a favaorite picnic spot.
Ethipothala also boasts of a cracadile breeding centre where you can get a fascinating glimpse af these reptiles from close quarters and observe their behaviour in their natural habitat.

 

Guthikonda Caves

Close to Karampudi, 38 Kms from Narasaraopet Guthikonda caves are located amidst dense forest. The environment here is serene. The subterra mean passage (Bilam/Cave) at Guthikonda yielded an antinnae sword cast of copper datable to the ehalcolithic times. The cave was used as habitation site by the protohistoric people. The location in forest and the hills attract furnists during the week ends.  

 

Karampudi  

Karampudi 35 Kms from Macherla. The historical Chennakesava Swamy temple built by king Brahmanayudu, is located here. Weapons used during the palnadu war have been carefully preserved here.An annual festival to commemorate the memories of the heroes of that war attracts visitors from all over the region.

 

Kesanapalli

The mound outside the village yielded remains of a stupa and vihara. The finds include a broken octagonal shaft containing an inscription in four lines and few limestone slabs bearing lotus. Some of these slabs also contain label inscriptions, probably the names of donors.

How to Reach
12 kms from Dachepalli and 95 kms from Guntur in Guntur district. From Dachepalli, Kesanapalli is well connected by Bus service and there are frequent buses from Dachepalli. Private transport is also available.

 

 
Kondaveedu  

Kondaveedu is located 25 Kms from Guntur . This historical fort was built during the reign of the Reddy kings in 14th century A.D. there are 21 structures in the fort . The ruins of the fort located on the hilltop offer unraveled mysteries to the tourist. A place of natural scenic beauty with natural wonders it is an ideal place for trekking. The Gopinatha temple and Kathulabave at the foot of the hillock, numerous temples, residential structures, pillared halls on the hill and the entrance gate ways on east and west sides are the attractions at kondavidu.

 

Kotappa Konda  

Located 63 kms from Guntur, Kotappa Konda is noted for the ancient Siva temple located on top of a hill. The annual Mahasivarathri Jatara in February, is celebrated on a lavish scale and attracts devotees from all over the state. The landscape, gardens and modern buildings add further attractions at this spot the Journey on the Ghat Road really thrills the Townists.

 

Mangalagiri Temple

Mangalgiri, located 12 kms from Vijayawada is one of the prominent pilgrimage centres in Andhra Pradesh. It is famous for the Panakala Swamy temple on the hill and Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple in Mangalgiri town.
Dress materials and sarees made from Mangalagiri cotton are extremely popular.

Nagarjuna Sagar Dam

Nagarjunasagar is the world's tallest masonry dam, which irrigates
over 10 lakh acres of land. It has also created one of the largest man-made lakes in the middle of which stands the picturesque island of Nagarjunakonda where a museum houses invaluable Buddhist relics and structures unearthed when the dam was being constructed.
On the right bank of the reservoir, the ruins of an ancient Buddhist settlement have been reconstructed. Sacred stupas, viharas, monasteries, a university and a sacrificial altar, can be seen on the Island and at Anupu.

 

NTR Manasa Sarovaram

This Beautiful recreation center named after Shri N.T.Rama Rao , is located 6 Kms from Guntur town at Takellapadu . Spread over an area of 55 acres , NTR Manasa Soravaram is exotically landscaped with flowerbeds,lawns , ponds & small hillocks.

 

Pedakakani  

Located just 5 Kms from Guntur, the place is well known for the kakani Malleswara Swamy temple built during the era of Krishnadevaraya. Devation to the deity is believed to heal the sick and drive away evil sprites from possessed persons. A famous muslim dargah & a church are worth visit.

 

Sitanagaram  

Sitanagaram is located 3 Kms from Vijayawada , ON THE BANKS OF RIVER Krishna with a vast sandy beach for recreation and leisure. The famous Someswara Swamy temple is situated here according to the legend Lord Rama wept here for Sita when she was abducted by Ravana , hence the name Sitanagaram.

 

Sri Laxmi Chennakesava Swamy Temple

Undavalli Caves  

The Undavalli caves, in the village of Undavalli, are at a distance of and nearly The high hill overlooking the Krishna river hosts fine specimens of rock cut architectural of the Buddhists.
These caves were excavated in 4th-5th centuries A.D. These four storied caves with a 5m long reclining statue of Lord Vishnu sculpted from a single block of granite, is one of the best and earliest type here.

 

 
Uppalapadu Birds Sanctuary

Located 5 Kms from Guntur town , this Sanctuary is home to 40 species of migratory birds from Siberia which include pelicans , White ibies etc. These are birds can be spotted from the month of September to February. This is an important Birds Sanctuary next to Pulicat in Nellore District .
